LAND – Photographs by Matthew Conduit

Tue 2 January - Sat 15 June 2024

Graves Gallery

Post-industrial landscapes have held a lifelong fascination for Sheffield-based artist Matthew Conduit.

For more than three decades he has repeatedly
returned to photograph the same sites, revisiting and reworking what he sees around him.

Conduit’s detailed rendering of the subject matter and large print scale are fundamental to the expression of his ideas about place, time, context and history, resulting in arresting images that slowly reveal their content.

LAND presented a selection of images made over the last ten years which have never been on public display before. It included work where, for the first time in many years, Conduit has left the city to explore sites along Britain’s east coast. These coastal observations were displayed alongside still life images that document found objects or ‘treasure’ he has collected whilst exploring the landscape.

Matthew Conduit would like to thank MM Design, ASAP Digital Ltd. and Framework Gallery for their support in staging this exhibition.
