Get a hands-on insight into careers across at the museums.

Sheffield Museums Trust run six of Sheffield’s museums and galleries.  The collections we care for and the exhibitions and displays we create span social and industrial history, archaeology, natural science and decorative and visual art. This year we are offering work experience which provides an insight into how museums like ours operate and the wider work we do.

Who is it for?

Applications to join our work experience programme are open to students from Year 9 to Year 13 from schools within the Sheffield City Region.

When does it happen?

Our work experience takes place in late June / early July. Applications for 2023 are now closed, but look out for info on our 2024 opportunities in the New Year.

Where does it take place?

Work experience with us will be based across Sheffield Museums Trust sites, including:

  • Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet
  • Graves Gallery
  • Kelham Island Museum
  • Millennium Gallery
  • Weston Park Museum

What will I do?

  • You’ll work across departments, teams and sites to gain experience of as many areas as possible. This will include spending time with our curators, our learning teams, as well as our teams who look after our visitor experience, retail, fundraising and communications.
  • As part of your time with us we’ll ask you to keep a reflective journal documenting your experience.

How do I apply?

Applications for 2023 are now closed. Check back here in early 2024  for information on how to apply for next year's intake.
