This Taster Day will give you an introduction to what ‘CraftLab’ has to offer, with a tour of the museum, the opportunity to meet one of our Historical Engineers, a talk from Elizabeth Jarvis from the QEST Youth Board and the opportunity to try some hands-on metalwork with local creative Morvarid Alavifard.
Whether you’re just starting to think about employment, are studying or are simply keen to try something new, October’s ‘CraftLab’ will introduce you to a range of heritage crafts, with a focus on metal and pewterwork. You will meet local makers, visit them in their workshops and find out how they have built their careers. QEST Youth Board members will be on hand throughout the week to share their journeys in heritage crafts, offer advice and provide practical tips on how to build your career as a maker.
The ‘CraftLab’ will be followed by an open call for participants to apply for a Kickstarter micro-grant of up to £750. The grant will signpost age-appropriate training, materials, tools or travel to support skills in metalworking. Each grantee will receive 4 hours of mentoring from a craft practitioner and a QEST Youth Board member for peer advice. Successful grant applicants will also get the opportunity to support the creation of a Digital Craft Library.
Everything we do is made possible by you – please donate £5 to help tell stories that connect people with their history, the world around them and each other
