Queer Legacies: Jon Sleigh in Conversation with Alim Kheraj

Join us for a thought-provoking conversation between arts educator Jon Sleigh and journalist, Alim Kheraj about the current exhibition, Revolution, Revelation, Reinforcement: Queer Legacies in Sheffield’s Art Collection.  

 

In this special evening event, Jon Sleigh and Alim Kheraj will explore the process  and ethics of LGBTQ+ research, and the powerful emotion and connections found with the local community. Sleigh will discuss the process of curating the exhibition and share some of the surprises he discovered when working with the collection. The conversation will be followed by a short audience Q&A. 

Jon Sleigh (he/him) is a freelance Learning Curator, arts educator and writer. He works nationally as a specialist in fine art engagement with a diverse portfolio of arts institutions, museum, and heritage sites across the UK. Clients include the National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery, The Wallace Collection, Tate, The National Archives, Historic Royal Palaces, Art Fund, The Government Art Collection DCMS and the Arts Council Collection. Prior to this Jon worked for Birmingham Museums Trust in round one of the acclaimed ACE National Partners Program. He is the author of 'What Are Museums For?' Bristol University Press. 

Alim Kheraj is a writer, podcast maker and the author of Queer London, a guide to the city's LGBTQ+ past, present and future. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian , The Observer , GQ , i-D , Dazed, The Tribune and The i. He has collaborated on exhibitions with institutions such as the V&A, RIBA, Leeds City Museum and Leeds Conservatoire. He currently lives in Sheffield.   

This talk is in collaboration with Sheffield Libraries and will take place in the Carpenter Room in the Central Library building.
