Opening Party: Caribbean Footsteps

Sat 11 May 2024 , 10am-4pm

Weston Park Museum

Join us to celebrate the opening of Caribbean Footsteps, the new exhibition in Weston Park Museum’s Sheffield Stories gallery.

Caribbean Footsteps celebrates the many ways that people of African Caribbean heritage have contributed to Sheffield life. Shaped by community co-curators, the displays combine historic objects and photographs with spoken testimony, film clips and artworks.

The day’s festivities will begin with a welcome from some of our community co-curators, after which there will be a host of hands-on family friendly activities and live music to enjoy. You’ll also have the chance to be among the first to explore the new displays, which bring together objects, photographs, film and much more.

Discover inspiring stories of journeys, culture and heritage, from church, sport and carnival to fighting racism and discrimination. Contributions from later generations reflect on the contemporary legacy of those who arrived on the Windrush, while interactive displays explore food, music, games and fashion. Plus, younger visitors can jump on board our newly painted Caribbean bus!
