Lunchtime Talk: The Rivelin Valley Artists – Painting, Nature and Companionship at the end of The First World War

Tue 23 April 2024 , 1pm-1:45pm

Weston Park Museum

Environmental campaigner Chris Baines grew up in Sheffield, inspired by the nature on his doorstep, surrounded by paintings of the Rivelin Valley and aware of the group of local men, including his grandfather, who painted there together after the end of 'The Great War.’

In this illustrated talk, Chris will share the beauty of the paintings, the river and its wildlife, celebrate the role the artists played in protecting the Rivelin Valley from development, and ask if they discovered a pioneering way of dealing with the horrors of war.
