Saturday Art Workshop: Exploring Colour with Brian Smith

Sat 19 July 2025 , 10am-4pm

Millennium Gallery

Delve into the world of colour in more depth with experienced artist-tutor Brian Smith in this comprehensive full-day workshop.

Under Brian’s expert guidance, you’ll explore everything from colour temperature, complimentary colours, colour harmony, colour values, through to colour-mixing logic, the psychology of colour, monochrome and much more. You’ll have the chance to investigate the application of each through lots of worked examples using different media.

The workshop is suitable for all experience levels, whether you’re a novice or an established artist wanting to experiment with colour in your work.

Brian Smith is a Sheffield-based artist who has been painting professionally for thirty years and teaching for twenty-five of those. He regularly contributes instructional articles to Leisure Painter magazine, runs his own watercolour courses in Sheffield and has delivered workshops on a variety of subjects for Sheffield Museums.

This workshop forms part of the programme of events complementing the exhibition Colour, which opens at the Millennium Gallery on 19 June 2025, until 14 September 2025.
