Saturday Art Workshop: Drawing and Printing on Clay with Becca Brown

Sat 20 April 2024 , 10:30am-4pm

Millennium Gallery

Join local artist Becca Brown for an enjoyable full-day workshop, exploring drawing and printing on ceramics.

During the morning, you will experiment with a range of mark making, drawing and printing techniques on clay slabs. After lunch, students will be able to make and decorate a slab-built pot or mug from scratch, using techniques from the morning session to decorate. The final pieces will be finished with a clear glaze and fired in the kiln, ready to collect from the Millenium Gallery two weeks later.

Working in porcelain and stoneware, Becca Brown combines drawing, painting and printmaking to build narrative on the surface of decorative hand-built ceramics. With inspiration gathered from observations of what surrounds her, and imagery from half-remembered Scottish superstitions and old wife's tales, she aims to capture moments of human connection and intimacy in her drawings.

Becca Brown initially studied Textile and Surface Design at Gray’s School of Art in 2010, before going on to study for a Masters in Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art in 2014. After graduating, she moved from Inverness to Sheffield for the Ceramic Starter Studio at Yorkshire Artspace and has stayed put since, juggling making with work in healthcare and education.

Becca Brown’s work is currently on display at the Millennium Gallery until Sunday 28th April. You can find out more about the display here
