Performance: Liz Hanks ‘Land’

Wed 29 May 2024 , 6pm-7:30pm

Graves Gallery

Join us for a performance of Sheffield-based cellist Liz Hanks’ debut album, Land at the Graves Gallery.

This unique event will see Hanks perform her debut album Land, surrounded by Matthew Conduit’s striking photography exhibition, Land. Hanks and Conduits’ work complement each other, exploring both the loss of nature in the urban environment and forgotten natural worlds, whilst celebrating the green and coastal spaces that remain.

Liz Hanks moved to Sheffield in the 90s and soon became immersed in the local popular music scene. She has been a long-standing cellist with Richard Hawley & Thea Gilmore. Her album Land is based on the local and natural history of the area of Sheffield which she lives, and explores influences from, minimalism, folk, Indian classical music and improvisation.

This performance forms part of the programme of events complementing the exhibition LAND – Photographs by Matthew Conduit, which continues at the Graves Gallery until 15 June 2024.
