How many people believe in ghosts? Salute a magpie? Observe summer solstice? Perhaps you have a story you tell about the landmark in your area, or about that strange flying object you couldn’t explain.
The National Folklore Survey for England explores the beliefs and customs of people living in England today. Join the survey project leads and researchers, David Clarke, Sophie Parkes-Nield and Diane Rodgers as they share some of the findings that have been revealed so far – and what this might mean for us as a nation.
The National Folklore Survey for England began in January 2025. It is funded by the AHRC and led by Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Hertfordshire and Chapman University, California. Find out more at nationalfolkloresurvey.co.uk
This talk forms part of the programme of events complementing the exhibition Gathering Landscapes which opens at Weston Park Museum on 27 November 2025, until 1 November 2026.
