Join us for a celebration of South Asian heritage, with a selection of hands-on, family-friendly activities throughout the museum.
Enjoy a whirlwind journey through folk dances from the Northwest regions of South Asia including Attan (Afghanistan), Bhangra (Pakistan & India), Giddha (Punjab) and Dandiya Ras (Gujarat) with dance facilitator Nisha Lall.
Then, get creative with fabric mirror work to reflect light and bring some sparkle to dark February days. You’ll use traditional gota ribbons, mirrors and South Asian fabrics to create a textile collage artwork, following a traditional pattern or creating your own design.
Plus, you’ll be able to get hands on with objects from the museum stores with our curators, who will tell you all about the fascinating stories behind them and why contemporary collecting is so important.
This session forms part of the programme of events complementing the display Contemporary Collections: South Asian Heritage at Weston Park Museum. The event has been made possible thanks to funding through the Many Voices project.
