Evening Workshop: Embroidery Sew Along with Dionne Swift

Wed 26 June 2024 , 6pm-8pm

Millennium Gallery

Create a unique hand-stitched landscape over a printed design with contemporary textile artist Dionne Swift.

You’ll work over a hand printed base, using one of Dionne’s most popular images showing a view overlooking a local Yorkshire Reservoir. Dionne will discuss how she developed this image as you put a personal touch to your artwork, building up a layered composition using different embroidery stitches.

All materials will be provided, and you’ll leave with a beautiful artwork, ready framed in an embroidery hoop. The session is suitable for beginners and improvers.

Dionne Swift, a renowned artist and maker, skilfully threads a narrative of creativity through drawing, textiles, and jewellery. With over 30 years of artistic practice, Dionne's work is a vibrant celebration of the intricate dance between scale, emotion, and energy, where landscapes transform into energetic drawings and textiles, and jewellery emerges as wearable art.  A Goldsmith's College graduate with a Masters in Textiles from UCE, Birmingham, Dionne has gained her international acclaim, with her work held in collections by esteemed institutions like The Embroiderers Guild and Janome UK.

A finalist in the Fine Art Textiles Award, Dionne continues to break creative boundaries. Based in Yorkshire, she shares her innovative techniques and artistic vision globally through exhibitions, tutorials, and captivating workshops. Dionne Swift's creations are more than adornments; they are living expressions of the deep connection between drawing, design and making.
