A full show with live music, The Fable of the Ungrateful Wolf” is a story about how an ungrateful beast repays kindness with ingratitude. Originated from a story written in the Ming Dynasty in China (1368-1644), it has been rewritten by Atomic Cantonese Theatre in response to political events in contemporary Hong Kong. The performance in Sheffield will be its premiere in the UK.
The show tells the story of Mr. Dung Gwok, who risked his life to save an injured, fleeing wolf. However, after the wolf escaped danger, it repaid this kindness with ingratitude, even attempting to devour its saviour out of hunger. When faced with a creature that repays kindness with cruelty, would you choose to kill it or let it go?
The performance lasts around 75 minutes and will be followed by a 20-minute panel discussion.
