Abbeydale Works was once the biggest water-powered industrial site on the River Sheaf. This picturesque dam was the sources of that power.
Throughout the site’s history the dam was expanded from a narrow goit, or man-made watercourse, channelling the water from the river to the waterwheels to a five-acre body water at its peak.
Today the dam spans about four acres in total. It continues to power the waterwheels and is home to a wide range of local wildlife.
