Glacier Painting, Green and Brown
About this object
Wilhelmina Barnes-Graham was part of the group of young modern painters working out of St Ives in the 1940s. She is perhaps best known for her series of abstract glacier paintings which were derived from observations of nature and the landscape.
Barnes-Graham attended Edinburgh College of Art before moving to St Ives. It was here she met artists such as Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth and became inspired by international abstract art.
