These workshops will be specially designed for the needs of SEND pupils and will be piloted and evaluated with local special schools. The new workshops will be available to special schools at Weston Park Museum when it is closed to the public, giving them exclusive use of the museum and its facilities.
Deliverables:
Key outputs and considerations include:
- Design and develop three workshops for special schools, which respond to the needs of SEND pupils. This is to include: pre-visit guidance, session plans, accompanying materials/resources and risk assessments. The themes for these workshops have already been identified through consultation with special schools.
- Develop creative and appropriate materials and identify necessary resources to be purchased for use in the workshops, with safety, suitability and sustainability in mind.
- Respond to the needs of special schools which have been identified through teacher consultation and later through feedback from pilot schools.
- Hold a training workshop with Casual Learning Deliverers on how to deliver the workshops to school groups, including best practice and use of materials and resources.
- To work within an agreed budget and timeframe.
Knowledge and experience:
The SEND specialist should:
- Enjoy and have a knowledge of working with children and young people with a range of SEND.
- Have experience of working with collections, galleries or museums.
- Have worked with/are interested in working with special schools.
- Have a good understanding of the practical needs of special school groups when they are learning outside of the classroom.
- Are experienced collaborators who work well as part of a team.
Fee
£1000 for 5 days between October 2025 – February 2026.
