Off the Shelf: Elizabeth Siddal: Her Story - Jan Marsh

Fri 8 December 2023 , 12:30pm-1:30pm

Millennium Gallery

Elizabeth Siddal was a Pre-Raphaelite supermodel, muse and wife of Gabriel Rossetti - cast as a tragic heroine like the Ophelia she modelled for Millais.

This radical new account overturns the myths, presenting her as an aspirational, independent woman.  Extraordinary stories include the exhumation of her grave for Rossetti’s poems and new information including her attendance at art school in Sheffield.  Jan Marsh is a biographer, curator and pioneer of the feminist understanding of women in the artistic circle around the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

This is a rescheduled talk from Friday 20th October.

The event is organised by the Off the Sheff Festival. Views expressed at this event do not reflect those of Sheffield Museums.
