How did we lose so much of the Sheaf and Porter Rivers and what is being done to help rediscover, restore and look after them?
Hear about the ongoing work of the Sheaf and Porter Rivers Trust in this free lunchtime talk from Simon Ogden. A town planner, urbanist and local historian, Simon has been involved with post-industrial and city centre master planning of Sheffield for over 36 years.
A continuous theme in Simon’s work has been the restoration of Sheffield’s rivers and canals, damaged and heavily modified by industry but now rediscovered as important assets for biodiversity, climate change management, urban regeneration, mental health and active travel.
Now retired from paid professional work, he continues to convene the Sheffield Waterways Strategy Group, an umbrella organisation bringing together a broad range of public, voluntary and academic organisations with an interest in waterways. He is also a Trustee and current chair of the Upper Don Trail and the Sheaf and Porter Rivers charitable Trusts and an active River Ranger for the Rivelin.
