Graves Gallery

Britannia Hospital 2 by Donald Rodney is one of a series he made using x-rays. For Rodney, x-rays were a way to look beneath the surface and examine the social and political ills in British society.

Reflecting on the contemporary diseases of racism, injustice and brutality, this work includes a figure based on news photos of the uprisings in Soweto in South Africa during apartheid in the 1970s.
